The Science of Light

New from Holiday House! The Science of Light: Things that Shine, Flash and Glow:

Dramatic paintings of lightning, fire, fireworks and more introduces the sources of light—both natural and manmade—and encourage children to look around and observe. Bioluminescent squid, fireflies and phytoplankton reveal light sources in living things. Fireworks and light bubbles sparkle on the page. This foundational science book will kindle curiosity in physical science and the natural world. The simple text makes science accessible to all ages.

Toddlers will delight in the colorful art at storytime. As they grow, kids will return to this nonfiction favorite and discover new ideas each time. Science vocabulary and definitions are included in the back of the book.

The Science of Light is an Orbis Pictus Award Honor Book!

The Science of Light is available to order at your favorite brick and mortar stores! Also at Indiebound, Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

Undersea World

This is a fun activity to do, with a black piece of paper, a “flashlight” page (included here) a ziploc bag and Sharpie permanent markers. Kids draw their undersea world on the plastic bag with Sharpies (Sorry–water soluble markers don’t work!). Insert a piece of black construction paper into the bag. The students color and cut out their flashlight.
